Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

500mL Solvent Distillation Apparatus Complete, Airfree, Schlenk. Apparatus for use in distillation of materials like THF or ether. Storage reservoir has a capacity of 500mL. The cold finger coil condenser has a section that's immersed into the distillate. The 0-4mm Chem-Vac™ Chem-Cap valves provide for grease-free, leakproof seals. Side vapor tube is fitted w/a 14/20 standard taper outer joint, to be used w/a CG104214 thermometer adapter which fits a plain stem thermometer. A short (50mm) vigreux section is provided to enhance separation. Syringe access port incorporates a 4mm PTFE stopcock w/a 14/20 outer joint for use w/CG-3022 septum stopper. Lower 3way valve allows for solvent return to flask, takeoff or storage in graduated reservoir. Delivery adapter is fitted w/a 12/5 spherical joint for flexibility & a 0-4mm Chem-Vac™ Chem-Cap valve for purging of the receiving vessel.

Valve, Chem-Vac, Hi-Vac, 180¿, 0-8mm, Viton O-Ring. CHEM-VAC valve with two sidearms sealed to the barrel at a 180¿ angle to one another and on the same plane. Valve has TFE plug with three o-rings, the tip o-ring making the primary seal on the precision formed tapered seat. O-rings on the non-rotating shaft form an excellent dynamic seal between the TFE plug and glass barrel. Connections are made of polypropylene and provide a safe and easy way of connecting and disconnecting flexible tubing to the condenser. Supplied complete with two GL open top screw caps and two straight polypropylene hose connections. Condensing area is the same as CG-1217.

Inlet and outlet are 180º apart for installation into a variety of vacuum systems. Stopper has a standard taper inner joint and body has an outer joint. Body length is the overall length from the top of the joint to the bottom of the round bottom. Serrated hose connections have an O.D. of 13mm at the smallest serration and 16mm at the largest serration.

Solvent Distillation Apparatus Complete, Airfree, Schlenk. Similar in design to AF0720 but without delivery adapter. Lower 3-way valve has been replaced with a single 0-4mm Chem-Vac™ Chem-Cap valve for draining distillate back into the flask. The uptake tube has one row of vigreux indentations, while the 14/20 top outer joint has been eliminated. Temperature can be measured by using a 2-neck flask with a thermocouple or thermometer adapter. The delivery tube has two 2mm PTFE straight bore stopcocks that can be operated in a way to purge the receiving vessel with inert gas.
